Promises

I’m going to try and keep this one short and sweet. It’s quite unplanned, but something just took my mind on a tangent and if I don’t write it now it will stay in my mind building castles and cathedrals, cities and parks, until finally in the middle of the night, I get up and write it.

I’ve been in a bit of a funk this week. Everything was fine until Wednesday, when my body decided to throw me a historic curveball and every positive self care habit jumped out of the way. Since then, there’s been a little malaise hanging around the edges of every 24-hour reset.

Today I didn’t want to go for a walk, but I decided to. I made it simple, I’m just going to walk to the shops to pick up some biscuits for a catch up with friends tonight. There’s a shop nearby, and there’s one a bit further. I thought I’d go to the one that’s a bit further until I stepped outside and saw the grey sky and felt the rain tapping on my hood like it was Gene Kelly himself, but I decided to walk even though I didn’t want to.

At the end of my road, malaise crept back and whisperedto me and I thought it best to go to the shop nearby. Yet as I walked towards the nearest, the grey made way for brightness and my inner child began to smile and I decided to walk past the nearer one and take them now even longer route to the one further.

Expectation: there’s rain, there’s sun, there’s going to be a rainbow.

As I walked away from the shop nearby, there was the promise, the expectation fulfilled.

It made me ask; how often in the rain of life, do I choose to see light is right there in it. How often do I expect his promises to be seen.

God is building expectation in me.

As I got to the shop that was further (and now further still), people were coming out of the shop and stopping their tracks to take pictures because such a display of promise draws our attention. Even the birds seemingly flew close to it! Holy Spirit nudged again, we are a display of his promise! When we stand full in his promise, it is noticeable. Friend, you are a display of his splendour.

One more thing, which you can see if you look closely. Not only could we see the full arch, but it was a double rainbow. This week I’ve parked up in Isaiah 61 and yesterday v7 caught my attention.

Instead of shame you will receive a double portion… you will inherit a double portion in your land & everlasting joy will be your.

Friends, this is His promise. He is God of the extra and I am learning to expect to see more in the days to come. It may be raining, but the light is always with us. Let us fix our eyes on the light and see the fulfilment of his promises to come into view, both for you and through you.
